Chris is a lively and entertaining speaker with a BA in English and Philosophy, MA in Biblical Studies and a PhD in Theology. Chris studied theology at Bristol University where his doctoral work was on Christianity and other Religions. He is now a lecturer at Moorlands College, Sopley, where he teaches contemporary culture and the Bible. His interests include the history and archaeology of the Middle East. He edited Reconstructing Theology (Paternoster, 1999), contributed to the IVP Dictionary of Apologetics, authored The Universe of Faiths (Paternoster, 2004) and has a forthcoming book with Inter-Varsity Press on objections to the Bible, due out in January 2012.

Chris will speak on how Christians engage with the Tanach as the background to their New Testament Scriptures. In this presentation, he will describe how archaeology and background study casts light on scripture in a way that is relevant to both Jews and Christians. Drawing on recent experience on an excavation in the Galilee, he will show how archaeology assists in casting light on the meaning of the Hebrew scriptures and brings alive a world important to us all.

Diary Note: The next meeting will be the Chanucah/Advent Party on 8 December.
